This here is the Axehandle Hound. It was said to be a low-slung, squat dog with stumpy legs and an ax-like face that went around chewing off and eating the handles of lumberjack axes. If an axe handle was pitted or worn or looked as if something as eating it -- it was blamed on this guy. Sadly, if no ax handles were about for it to gnaw into oblivion, the Axehandle Hound would starve to death. It was mostly nocturnal, so your axes would only fall prey to it while you slept.
