"I am sugar and slime, soft and strange—sweet until you get too close."

Gastrosnaps or simply Snaps are a fictional closed species of large, amphibian dragon-like creatures with their digested and liquified slimes that is very notorious for eating a lot of candy, as it pretty substainably source of sugar, but they can eat other sweet stuff too. These slimy critters was created/designed by Skelefrog.

But another similar creature is a Synaxid.

[OUTDATED] Gastrosnap - Species Guide

As their appearances, gastrosnaps are large, gooey, quadrupedal creatures that resemble a blend of amphibians/dragons with a candy-coated twist. Their defining traits are their semi-transparent, jelly-like bodies, which contain crystallized sugar bones and organs. They're designed to be both grotesque and adorable, oozing with charm literally.

Their bodies are gelatinous and sticky, exuding a sugary slime that varies in acidity mild and sweet on the outside, dangerously acidic near their core. Gastrosnaps possess a thick, muscular tail known as a snaptail, which helps them store sugar-based energy and can be used defensively. But despite their size and bulk, they can move with surprising speed when motivated, especially if candy is involved.

These creatures thrive in cool, dry environments, especially during autumn. The heat causes them to soften and melt slightly, making them lethargic and sticky. And their slime production is so highly dependent on environmental temperature and sugar intake.

  • Membrane - Congealed slime and hard to penetrate.
  • Slime - Gooey and runny, syrup-like consistency.
  • Innard - Innards are jelly-like consistency and toxic levels of sugar.
  • Bone - Crystalized sugar that is very hard.

Their diet is almost entirely composed of sugar, with a strong preference for candy. In desperate times, they will consume anything with caloric or sugary content, but this can lead to unstable slime and health issues. Their digestion turns sugar into a specialized slime used for both defense and hydration.

Gastrosnaps are curious and gluttonous, often led by their noses (and sweet tooth). They can be territorial, especially around candy stashes, but many are friendly and affectionate toward caretakers who provide sweets. They are agender and non-reproductive, making every Gastrosnap a unique individual created, not born.

Uncommon Features[]

Some gastrosnaps have the distinctive features of their own kind, like they have gel spines with gills and spines on their heads and tails. In their mouth, they have sharp slime-teeth and nail-like claws on their finger-like toes.

From their tails, gastrosnaps have more distinctive features than common gastrosnaps, however, they have tail that is curled, dusty, cetacean-like, or many of tail shapes. The inside of their tails, they have some gross or sweet objects inside of their blob such as bones, skulls, fish, lollipops, animal-shaped gummies, and more objects or stuffs.

From their limbs, gastrosnaps have extra limbs that is so prehensile and stretchable which can used for a defense, sleeping, and moving when they’re ready to play similar to dog’s.

From their facial features, many gastrosnaps having animalistic ears and eyes that is on middle and in tongue and also, the snap body also has features to the specific animal.

Rare Features[]

An alternate body types have their appearances as they look like animals many of gastrosnaps have their animal-like traits such as foxes, cats, dogs, wolves, coyotes, rabbits, hares, etc.

A non-slime substances of gastrosnaps having their slime-like elemental qualities on their underbelly and tail. Their underbelly and their tail are more elemental could be in dust, flame, water, light, dark, magic, wind, air, etc.

Snaptail or gastrosnap tail[]

A gastrosnap’s tail (a snaptail)

If a gastrosnap (or a snap for short) loses his snaptail, a name of gastrosnap’s tail. These amphibious beasts have their amazing ability to regenerate their snaptails throughout their lifespan. Focusing on muscle and bones, certain species of gastrosnaps dedifferentiate muscle fibers in the tail stump and mobilize them for muscle creation in the regenerating snaptail, as they grow beyond metamorphosis.

Despite of this, gastrosnaps’ bones and guts vary from snap to snap, some have a ribcage while others don’t, some lack respiratory organs but have a heart, lungs, liver, and some's tailbones "trail off" all disjointed in the slime, blob, orb, etc.

A gastrosnap’s snaptail is a slime-themed tail with a tail bone inside of it.

Snaptail Shedding in Gastrosnaps[]

Snaptail shedding is a defensive or emergency response, like how some lizards shed their tails. It typically occurs if a Gastrosnap is in severe distress, has overheated, or is attacked in a way that threatens the tail’s integrity.

The snaptail is a critical energy reserve, packed with sugar-rich slime and digestive organs. Losing it leaves a Gastrosnap weak, sluggish, and unable to regulate slime production effectively. The exposed tail stub may temporarily crystallize or “seal” with a candy-like scab.

The tail can regrow slowly over time if the Gastrosnap consumes large amounts of sugar and stays in a cool, stable environment. Regrown tails might look different—like new candy forming in a mold—possibly with changes in color or pattern.

A Gastrosnap without its tail might become more withdrawn or aggressive due to vulnerability. Some may hide while regenerating, while others adapt to using different tactics for defense or movement.

Gastrosnap Species Guide - Overview

the pressure's been on to get back to these critters, starting off with a new general ref as an overview of the new lore in plan to implement, and also as a "hub" for smaller and less word-heavy guides.

From the anatomy, gastrosnap have only backbone and no skull, instead they have some gross-looking organs and a heart with no lungs that are semi-transparently attached inside of the slime stomach.

Biology[]

“Gastrosnaps are a CLOSED SPECIES, which means they may not be made with permission from me, Skelefrog. They can be obtained through adoption sales, auctions, OTA/DTA contests, MYO events, and customs. Keep in mind that they are Halloween-themed, so their designs should reflect that!”

According to Skelefrog. The gastrosnpas are big, amphibious critters that tend to pop up around Halloween time.

They are quadrupedal and built round for maximum snuggle potential. While they are all unique in personality and vary in temperaments, they are known for their comfort around humans and general puppy-like demeanor. Not very good as pets due to their destructive and slimy nature, but are very loyal as companions and they can be referred to by any pronoun, but they are agender and cannot reproduce.

Because of the temperature-sensitivity of the slime, they tend to enjoy fall weather the most and are most active during it; the cool and dry weather is perfect to keep their gel solid, but not frozen. Summer will cause excess drippage, meaning they're losing more sugar and nourishment than they should; too much heat will melt the slime right off. Before winter, they store as much sugar as they can before finding a place to hide. They will eventually freeze and hibernate until the winter is over. They can come out any time they'd like, but usually late summer is optimal.

The slime that collects around their stomach, throat, and tail are a liquefied and congealed sugary substance. To produce this, they need to ingest large amounts of sugar, in which they earn their notorious nature for hoarding and eating candy en masse, but if not available, anything will do. Anything. In addition, their bones, teeth, and claws are crystallized sugar. The outer layer of the slime is protected by a flexible layer of skin. It is penetrable with force, but isn't recommended as it hurts the Gastrosnap. Under that is liquid slime, the jellied sugar substance. The further into the slime, the more acidic and toxic the substance becomes. By the time you reach the organs, acid burns are likely to occur. The slime itself is super-saccharine to the point where it isn't very appetizing at all and rather toxic. Good as emergency energy, but ingestion is a bad idea.

They can come with a wide variety of traits, some common ones listed above. Typically, the color of the slime is accentuated by the body, so their bodies should not be overbearing in markings or colors. Other than that, any colors are possible. Other possible features include bioluminescence, magical abilities, multi-colored slime, non-halloween themes, living creatures in slime, etc. There are also illegal features, most of which are prohibited by the anatomy itself. Fur and feathers will never be found on them unless they're trinkets/accessories, and they can never have no slime, because that means they're dead.

Gastrosnap advent[]

Snapmonths

All claimed in Gastrosnap Advent 2016

Each month, the gastrosnaps have bright colors as their mood and especially the features of their own traits. In addition, the snaps from months having colorful bodies with many decorations and styles to match their looks. And any type of Gastrosnaps breed have elementals in months such as Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Pride month, and more.

Designs will be released on the dates they are listed with, so they will be a surprise until then, but hopefully the given images/themes and traits with them, they are enough of a clue to help them decide which one of kinds are interested in the most. Each snap will be a fullbody drawing similar to the one-off auction styles such as this one, the unwatermarked version will be noted to those who purchase it on the day of its upload.

The apologize for how short-notice this is with everything going on on the frog (skelefrog) end, but rest assured sales will continue for as long as it is december and if a snap is unpurchased on the day it's released, it will be auctioned off instead.
