This creature makes a strange barking or “questing” noise — like a pack of hounds crying from inside its belly, that’s why they named this beast because of these sounds comes from the great noise that it emits from its belly, a barking like "thirty couple hounds questing". And it is usually portrayed as elusive and difficult to catch, symbolizing a long and often futile pursuit.
The Questing Beast is most famously hunted by King Pellinore, and later by Sir Palamedes and Sir Percival, among others. It represents an eternal or cursed quest and is often used as a metaphor for impossible or obsessive pursuits.
